About the Role

Rippling is so much more than just “a payroll company,” but there’s no denying payroll is the beating heart of our business – it’s often the first product our customers sign up for, and it’s a big part of why they stick with us. A payroll system involves enormously complicated workflows and ever-changing business rules.

The Filing Factory is a newly formed team developing a platform for non-technical domain experts to fully customize the complex payroll process for our fast-growing customer base. The team's main tech stack is Golang, Python, Postgres, and MongoDB.

Interesting problems the team is working on

  • A DSL (domain-specific language) that can access every piece of data managed by the system; Non-technical people can use the DSL to write expressions to compute the value for each box in a form.
  • Building a system to accurately compute and schedule payments to move billions of dollars per month.
  • Building a highly available infra to sync complex data between systems in near real-time.

We care about moving fast and continually deploying code but also about laying the proper infrastructure that enables us to do that safely and confidently. We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to join us in our journey to build the next generation of our most mission-critical payroll systems. You’ll play a key role in designing the architecture of the financial system that moves billions of dollars and shapes a rapidly-expanding team's technical processes and culture.

What you'll do

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of highly complex systems
  • Guide and mentor team members to deliver high-quality design and implementation
  • Have a holistic view across Payroll org and Rippling, and propose creative solutions to challenging problems
  • Engages with stakeholders across teams to drive new initiatives

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of software development experience
  • 2+ years of tech/team leading experience
  • Deep understanding of relational databases such as Postgres
  • Experience in building large-scale backend systems
  • Hands-on coding, strong design, and architectural skills
  • Proven track record of taking the initiative and leading projects
  • Strong product intuition
  • Nice to have: familiar with Golang, Kubernetes, and cloud infra

Additional Information

This role will receive a competitive salary + benefits + equity. The salary for US-based employees will be aligned with one of the ranges below based on location; see which tier applies to your location here.

  • Tier 1: $205,000 - $279,000/year

  • Tier 2: $184,000 - $252,000/year

  • Tier 3: $174,000 - $238,000/year

A variety of factors are considered when determining someone’s compensation–including a candidate’s professional background, experience, and location. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed above.
