- Remitly is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel, Payments & Regulatory to deliver payment agreements and provide regulatory advice to support Remitly’s global products and services. In this role, you will be responsible for providing expert legal support on payment agreement negotiations, regulatory compliance, product and service development and driving cross border expansion and licensing initiatives. Working closely with Remitly’s business and compliance teams, your role will also involve interpreting and analyzing complex legal and regulatory requirements, identifying areas of risk and opportunity, and providing timely and effective advice to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The successful candidate will be highly organized and be able to stay updated on evolving regulatory matters in the UK, EEA and other relevant jurisdictions. This role is based in London and will report to the Legal Director, Global Payments.
You Will:
- Deliver strategic commercial agreements with partners (including banks and payment processors) as well as providing legal advice and support for global projects;
- Advise on payment services and related regulatory issues applicable to the Remitly business including the support of cross border expansion initiatives;
- Support and advise the business, Policy and Regulatory Affairs, Compliance and other internal teams on regulatory engagement matters;
- Monitor and stay current with changes in payment related laws and regulations and advise on any necessary changes to Remitly’s products and services; and
- Manage and collaborate with external counsel in various jurisdictions to develop solutions on global regulatory matters that meet Remitly business requirements.
You Have:
- Qualifications to practice as an England and Wales qualified lawyer (or EU equivalent) with 8+ years - preferably including both in-house counsel and top national or international law firm experience;
- Experience in a highly regulated industry with financial regulatory and e-commerce legal requirements, including advice on payments and technology agreements;
- An in-depth knowledge of UK payments / e-money regulations (and/or EU equivalent) and industry standards as well as experience in advising on regulatory issues on a multi-jurisdictional basis. Experience of the payments regulatory environment in other jurisdictions such as Africa is also strongly preferred;
- Experience working with regulatory agencies and managing external counsel;
- Demonstrated ability of leading cross functional legal projects and ability to implement programmes of regulatory change in a fast pace, high growth environment; and
- A practical and self-motivated attitude, being happy to work on high level, complex projects.
