About the Role:

Remitly is looking for an experienced Privacy Counsel who will report to the Senior Corporate Counsel of Data Privacy to support our Legal Privacy team. As a Privacy Counsel, you will contribute to the implementation of a centralized global privacy program that strives to fulfill our Privacy program vision of bringing peace of mind to our customers by handling their information with transparency and respect. Your role will involve a high degree of collaboration with members of our Legal, Privacy, InfoSec, Operations, Compliance, HR and other teams.

You Will:

• Support the Privacy team with its implementation and maintenance of Remitly’s Global Privacy Program.

• Provide strategic legal advice, counsel on relevant laws, national guidelines, codes and best practices in relation to data protection / privacy.

• Review, draft and negotiate a variety of documents including, but not limited to, data protection agreements, privacy impact assessments, vendor agreements, and internal policies.

• Assist with the maintenance of our Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs) and data mapping efforts.

• Collaborate with Information Security, Engineering, and Privacy teams to support the development of tools and resources to further embed privacy into local processes.

• Provide support for responses to Data Subject Requests (‘DSRs’) and support Incident Management.

• Assist in the development of innovative solutions to streamline and simplify privacy policies and processes.

• Assist with regular horizon scanning to keep up to date on key developments in data protection.

You Have:

• Expertise in global privacy laws, with an emphasis on GDPR, including frameworks and standards relied on by regulatory bodies.

• A law degree from a leading law school and a license to practice law in either England & Wales or Republic of Ireland.

• 3-5 years of data protection / privacy experience, preferably in-house.

• Business judgment and ability to assess legal risk while providing practical advice.

• Superior relationship management and operational experience, analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

• The ability to translate complex requirements into discrete tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

• CIPP/E certification

• Experience with payments, financial services, technical data, and/or privacy regulation.

• Experience with data privacy tools

• Experience with or familiarity of NIST-P framework
