About Motion:

Motion is growing fast (3x YoY), our product is sticky and we recently raised $30M in Series B funding. We've doubled our headcount this year and have just over 50 team members.

But we’re just getting started and we need your help!

We’ve built a new category of software to bridge the gap between performance marketers and creative teams. Our platform combines creative analytics, research, and strategy. Motion is the command center for Creative Strategists.

Our customers are top ecom and DTC brands like Vuori, True Classic, The Farmer’s Dog, HexClad, and thousands more. They’ve used Motion to analyze over $6B in media spend.

About you:

We are looking for a talented, driven, and experienced fullstack engineer. In this role, you will play a crucial part in building customer facing features, end to end. As a company, we have a strong bias towards action and are looking for independent individuals with both technical and product savvy. You will use good judgment to make product choices and technical decisions from our customers’ perspective, we expect more than just shipping code.

The right candidate favors working on a cross-functional team, has opinions about good product experiences, and embraces a willingness to get the job done.

Motion is a fully remote company but we work closely as a team. We are looking for someone who has significant overlap with EST, somewhere between UTC-7 and UTC-3.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience turning designs and product requirements into products people love and use every day.

  • Excellence in backend systems using Node.js, TypeScript, and MongoDB.

  • Strong ability in frontend technologies, including React, TypeScript, GraphQL, and relevant frameworks/libraries within the Javascript ecosystem.

  • Startup experience with a proven ability to drive features home on a cross-functional team.

  • A pragmatic mindset that focuses on simple paths to delivering value.

  • Impatience for shipping product features to our users.

  • Any past experience. Self-taught, bootcamp, degree, founder - we love talent from anywhere.

In 5 days, you will:

  • Onboard with our CS team to really get to grips with the product and our customers.

  • Pair with a senior dev to get set up with our codebase and tooling.

  • Push your first PR

  • Have daily support from a member of the engineering team

In 30 days, you will:

  • Be paired with an onboarding buddy to ramp up on our codebase, customers and workflows.

  • Work closely with your team and get to know your colleagues across the company.

  • Immediately start contributing smaller features and bug fixes, with the goal of understanding the breadth of our product.

In 60 days, you will:

  • Collaborate closely on cross-functional teams to build completely new features.

  • Work independently on product solutions that get shipped to main.

  • Actively contribute to the growth of the engineering organization by being vocal in meetings, setting the roadmap, contributing to the tech stack, etc.

In 90 days (and beyond), you will:

  • Be an active contributor across the organization, not just on the engineering team.

  • Continuously learn and tackle unique technical challenges within our evolving product.

  • Advocate improvements to our development process.

  • Develop novel solutions to technical challenges and customer problems.

  • Contribute to making the engineering team better, in ways we haven’t thought of yet.

What you'll love about Motion:

  • Competitive market compensation, equity offering, 20 days PTO, full healthcare benefits, work from home stipend

  • Fully remote team with incredible offsites and retreats to build camaraderie. Our last retreat was a week-long stay at Lake Muskoka.

  • We've found product market fit but we're still so early that you will have a major impact on all the work left to do.

  • The engineering team is small, 11 devs, but established enough that we can ship serious features regularly.

  • Our team is ambitious, talented and low on egos

  • A sense of urgency. We prioritize shipping quickly to users, pushing new features and iterations every two weeks. Moving fast is baked into the process.

Motion has thrived in 2023, and 2024 has been a defining year here. We are finishing the year with fresh funding and exceptional signals from our clients. On top of this, our founding team has built successful companies before. This role offers an incredible opportunity to get in on the ground floor (we are only about 50 people right now) to help us build a category defining company in the “creative-tech” space.
